Longtime advisor and interim leader will guide the Vista-based nonprofit into its next chapter of helping families overcome homelessness

VISTA, CA -- The Solutions for Change Board of Directors announced today that Aaron Byzak has been named Chief Executive Officer, following his service as interim CEO since January 2026.

Byzak brings more than 30 years of leadership experience across healthcare, government, community engagement and nonprofit organizations, along with deep expertise in drug and alcohol prevention, public health strategy and workforce development. Since joining Solutions for Change as interim CEO, he has worked closely with the Board, staff, donors and community partners to strengthen organizational communication, support program operations and help position the organization for long-term sustainability.

“Aaron has provided steady, thoughtful and mission-centered leadership during an important time for Solutions for Change,” said Bret Schanzenbach, Acting Board Chair of Solutions for Change. “He understands this organization, believes deeply in the families we serve and brings the strategic experience needed to help us build on our legacy while preparing for the future. The Board is confident he is the right leader for this next chapter.”

Founded in 1999, Solutions for Change has spent more than 26 years helping families move from homelessness and dependency to stability, personal accountability and long-term independence. Through its signature Solutions Academy and related programs, the organization provides families with the tools, support and structure needed to transform their lives and break generational cycles of homelessness.

Byzak has been connected to Solutions for Change for nearly a decade, serving as a strategic advisor and volunteer instructor in the Solutions Academy. In that role, he has taught personal and professional development courses designed to help participants take ownership of their future, build confidence and develop practical tools for long-term success.

“Solutions for Change isn’t built on the idea that homelessness is inevitable but on the belief that it can be solved,” Byzak said. “When you combine accountability, support and real pathways to employment, families don’t just stabilize, they rebuild their lives,” Byzak said. “I am honored to continue serving this organization and grateful for the trust of the Board, staff, donors and partners who believe in this mission. Together, we will continue helping families change the trajectory of their lives.”

Before joining Solutions for Change, Byzak served as Interim CEO of the Grossmont Healthcare District, where he helped guide the organization through a leadership transition while advancing governance, strategic planning and community engagement initiatives. He also continues to serve in select consulting and fractional executive roles for organizations navigating leadership transitions and strategic change. He previously held senior leadership roles at Tri-City Medical Center, including Chief Strategy Officer and Chief External Affairs Officer.

As CEO, Byzak will focus on strengthening donor and community partnerships, advancing the organization’s long-term strategy, supporting staff and program leaders, and ensuring Solutions for Change remains a strong and effective resource for families working to overcome homelessness.

“We’re not here to manage homelessness. We’re here to end it for the families we serve,” Byzak said. “That means focusing on root causes, creating real opportunity and holding ourselves accountable for outcomes that actually matter. I look forward to working with our entire community to ensure this work continues and grows stronger.”
